this town, a town so obtuse

there are too many giants, too many giants in this town
what happened to all of the mothers, oh where have they gone?
there are too many men dancing around in their crowns
the children are trying to teach them how to lay their pride down

how many times must we get lot in our lies?
can we open our eyes now?
and how many times must we get lost in our lives
can we open our eyes now?

well don't waste a day
don't waste a day to make change
a chance to make change, love
don't be a fool
keep your eyes open and then
we'll guide home the blinded man.

there are too many fires and too many fights in this town
what happened to poets and lovers, oh where have they gone?
there are too many thieves, crooks and thieves in this town
well the heroes they must have all died and turned into some kind of ghost town

how many times must we get lost in our lies?
can we open our eyes now?
how many times must we get lost in our lives?
can we open our eyes now?

well don't waste a day
don't waste a day to make change
a chhance to make change, love
and don't be a fool
keep your eyes open and then
we'll guide home the blind man

take your light and start a fire, oh
take your light and start a fire, oh
a fire

- Wesley Jensen

This is a really good song...musically and lyrically. What makes it even better (actually the only reason I got it originally) is cause Christie DuPree sings on it. She does harmony and the "too many fires" verse. Her voice is so unique and beautiful! She's an Eisley sibling so it's no wonder. You can hear the song on www.myspace.com/wesleyjensen
(disclaimer - the lyrics aren't available online so this was my rough estimate from typing while listening, imperfected)

I found an old five dollar bill of mine lying around in my room so I got five iTunes songs I'd wanted.

- This Town A Town So Obtuse - Wesley Jensen (for reasons stated above)
- Crushcrushcrush - Paramore (cause it's an amazing song musically...lyrically not so awesome)
- On Top of the World - Boys Like Girls (cause they actually do have talent)
- That's How You Know - Enchanted soundtrack (cause it's a fairytale song!)
- Letters to You - Finch (cause my friend Elisabeth said it was a good song and it is)

AND
A Kiss From Mars by The Trailvan Hide
...which isn't a real band, it's Christie and Stacy DuPree being their musical selves. Still, Boyd put it up so I'm much enjoying listening to it. "We really come from Mars; I wasn't joking..." If you want it I'll get you the link.

Was sick today which wasn't fun at all, but still managed to get school done.

By the way, the boots came today, after giving up that they'd ever come and therefore been a waste. The only piece of Blythe clothing I own that isn't homemade.

Going to get to bed early, and have nothing much to say.

with love,
Cait

risk and fairytales

Love is the overflow of joy in God that meets the needs of others.

God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.

Both of those are quotes from John Piper that I really like. They are so helpful in every day things too.

There's also a quote by C.S. Lewis that partly says "To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken." It's a risk to love anything or anyone, or even make a friend. But Lewis says later, "The only place outside of Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers of love...is hell." I think that's why love of any kind has to be selfless, like it says in Corinthians...because you know there is a risk and you believe it's worth taking for the best of the other person.

Was just thinking about that today.

I love this graphic. Though if you look closely, it's somewhat sad.

Another thing I've been thinking about today (among many things!) was fairytales. That may sound funny, but really, to think through them. No, they aren't at all rational, but they are so innocent and nice because they all are perfect and happy and it's ok because everyone knows it's a fairytale. But that doesn't mean we have to ignore them either, because otherwise it would be plain pessimism - no one lives 'happily ever after' in the most technical sense of what that would mean, but there is still so much joy in life, no matter what the circumstances. Sometimes I think that thinking that way is childish, but I'm beginning not to mind anymore. It is still hard to get over the fact that others may not see it (and therefore me and others) the same way, but it's alright. I've never outgrown fairytales, Disney princess movies, enjoying dressing up with friends, or (most significantly in the past year!) dolls. There is still great pleasure to be found in seeing someone smile, seeing red leaves, making someone laugh, and so, so many other things...and just being optimistic in general. Perhaps if there were no pessimists in the world we would never get much done, but that's not to say anything bad about optimists. My optimism drives my mom crazy sometimes, but it is possible to be joyful and take things seriously. Not to say I or anyone else is always a bundle of sunshine because that is most definitely very untrue!
But God did say to "rejoice always," so I'm going to try to; even though there are things to be unhappy about right now, because there definitely are. I think trusting Him is part of what rejoicing is about, because you cannot honestly do one without the other.

Not really sure where I was going with that or why, but those were some thoughts of the day that wanted going through.

dresses and news

Hello lovelies,

Christine left Wednesday =( We went to the snow park in the morning.

Current favourite picture ever.

Dahlia V.
This is a new doll, from Global Village...she was made by Pakistani women in an organization in Hunza, a little village. It's hard to see but she's gorgeous and the face is painted beautifully.

A friend wanted to see more of the Blythe dresses I've made. Sadly these aren't for Dahlia to keep.

Some of you who are as dedicated to Eisley as I am may have already read of this on Trolleywood and Sherri's journal...but both Dupree girls' marriages are off...Chad is divorcing Sherri and Adam broke off the engagement with Chauntelle. This is not a gossip blog. I'm talking about it because I truly care about these people and I know some of you do too. It is heartbreaking - incredibly so for them. Boyd (their dad, in Trolleywood) has said that though it is the most painful and difficult thing that's happened to any of them, they aren't going to let it hold them back, and are leaning on God. It's a really good witness because Eisley isn't pushy about their faith but they have all posted verses that are comforting them right now. They're writing new songs, moving on, and trusting God. They're a close family. Aaand this means more tours for us. Not that I'll get to see them.

Ok, happier news.
We know a little bit about what will happen this summer now. So far -
- Ky and I are going to India over Easter break with our youth group!
- I'm going to the Ohio Scottish Arts School from June 24th-July 3rd and Ky's going to Csehy. Before that I may visit Katie in Philly, and after OSAS perhaps come bug you Michiganders for a few days. Mom will be in Washington.
- Then in August we're going to Holland for a conference (which was awesome 5 years ago) at Mooi Rivier, which used to be called De Bron. It's pretty. And we'll be in Holland for a bit =) We don't know how long yet though, as the conference is a week and we may have to go other places after as well.
- THEN in October we might see DC or Texas relatives but that doesn't concern any of you except that I could possibly maybe might see Chelsea in DC which would be awesome.

Please pray that our passports would be hurried up and that all would go well for getting the India visas over the next couple months.
Please also pray just for people here in general. Things are so messed up. Not concerning me personally, but just with friend's friendships and relationships in general. It really needs to change and I don't know how to play into that but know I should.

TOMORROW
I might get to see Enchanted XD

Magnolia

'your heartbeat is pulsing
at night in your chest
it's gold and it's glowing
with all the life you have left'

- Magnolia - The Hush Sound

This week...went to the desert with Christine, not far out at all though, sadly.

Made Dahlia a coat. It's been pouring rain here.
Went to Starbucks after Dutch tutoring. Het is niet warm buiter.

I want to watch this movie again.
"Curiouser and curiouser..."

Dad just got back from Japan and had a surprise for me! It's a case for my petite, the tiny one. Blythe stuff is so cutesy.

I haven't got a lot to report...we've mostly been doing school and hanging out with Christine. It's hard to think of things to do with everyone. The rain is nice though, especially the thunder. Not being able to go anywhere has been annoying though, and poor Christine isn't getting to see much. I've been sewing like crazy.

Just finished reading Blue Like Jazz by Don Miller. It was interesting...got much better as you went a lot. It's a good book to read if you think about it as you go and don't just accept it - not that there's anything bad in it, you just need to consider it first.

love,
Cait

Christmas Break

Desert Challenge!

Candle dance. Ky, Hannah, Elisabeth, yours truly.

No Talent Show. Cowboy song by the Kuwait guys and Pasta' Kyle
Dance

DC was good. Very different from last year, in some good ways and others not so good but I can't really compare or contrast them well.

Thursday a bunch of us went to Mall of the Emirates for the Snow Park. Lisa and I rode the Equinox in Magic Planet upstairs afterwards. I was terrified and loved it.

Then we rode the robocoaster which was very jerky.
Snow Park at Ski Dubai...On top of the igloo.
Group in front of the ice dragon. We played sardines and goofed off, and it was very fun =)
Desert on Saturday
The guys being cool or something (actually an awesome picture)
Drew&Lisa =)
Lisa and I at Naomi C's wedding shower Thursday night.

It's been a fun, busy two weeks...very emotional though, with confusion and miscommunication and then other frustrations/disappointments. But good still and I'm thankful =)

Christine comes on Wednesday =)

have fun lipstickeaters.

Dahlia Oz Vanderbilt

sorry punk, you don't tan Miss Plastic.

Christmas provided money designated for Blythe....a real, full sized one =)

LOVE

introducing Dahlia Oz V.

Now if only I had enough money for a Pipus Baha. $400? I don't think so. Or a gorgeous Lui doll.
